MouseTrail is a macOS menu bar utility that draws a colorful, fading trail behind your mouse pointer so it is easier to spot on screen. MouseTrail is built privacy-first: the app operates completely locally on your Mac, has no account system, no analytics, and no backend server. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with information on your device.

We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. MouseTrail has no analytics, no tracking, no advertising identifiers, and makes no network connections of its own.

MouseTrail Pro is a one-time purchase (a Non-Consumable in-app purchase, priced from $9.99 USD — price may vary by region) that permanently unlocks fixed colors, gradients, and custom preset styles. There is no subscription and no recurring charge for new purchases, and no free trial. All payments are processed entirely by Apple through your App Store account; we never see or store your payment details, Apple ID, or billing information. Your entitlement status (whether Pro is unlocked) is verified with StoreKit and cached only on your device, so the app also works offline. If you subscribed to MouseTrail Pro before this change, your subscription keeps working exactly as before — you do not need to buy the one-time unlock, and you can still manage or cancel it at any time in your App Store account settings.

Your trail settings and custom presets are stored locally on your Mac (in the app's preferences and the macOS Keychain, so your presets survive reinstalling the app). If you export presets as a .mousetrailpack file, that file is created only at your request and saved to the location you choose; sharing it is entirely under your control. The "Launch at Login" option is a standard local macOS setting.

MouseTrail uses no third-party services. The only external service involved is Apple's App Store for purchases, which is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

MouseTrail runs inside the macOS App Sandbox. Since no data leaves your device, your information is protected by your Mac's own security: preferences live in the app's sandboxed container and presets are protected by the macOS Keychain.
